Choose the platform type:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Web<\/strong> &#8212; almost always the right choice for a normal website.<\/li>\n<li><strong>iOS \/ Android<\/strong> &#8212; for a native app. Best to ship GTM during app development: changing app code is harder than changing a site.<\/li>\n<li><strong>AMP<\/strong> &#8212; accelerated mobile pages; uncommon now, mostly news-style properties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Click Create, review the terms, and accept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Install the container code<\/strong> as Google shows it:\n<ul>\n<li>Copy the top snippet and paste it immediately after the opening <code>&lt;head&gt;<\/code> tag.<\/li>\n<li>Copy the bottom snippet and paste it immediately after the opening <code>&lt;body&gt;<\/code> tag.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a browser you can inspect the page source to confirm placement. On a CMS you often use a theme \u201cCustom code\u201d field or a plugin instead of editing templates by hand. The requirement is the same: the container must load on every page you care about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the snippets are live, the useful next step is not \u201cfire every pixel at once\u201d, but open Preview and add only the events you need to manage ad spend in $.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!-- cta-anchor -->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Close the install dialog in GTM when the code is in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Install notes for WordPress and other platforms<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The path depends on the builder or CMS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On <strong>Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Shopify<\/strong> and similar platforms there is often a native Google Tag Manager field. Paste the container ID (GTM-XXXX) into site settings.<\/li>\n<li>For <strong>WordPress<\/strong>, plugins such as GTM for WordPress inject the snippets after you enter the container ID. Similar modules exist for Joomla, Drupal and other CMS stacks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you cannot find where to paste the code, contact the platform&#8217;s support team. Alternative for WordPress: pay a developer once in $ to inject the container, then manage tags yourself in GTM without theme edits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First steps after installing Google Tag Manager (GTM) on the site<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the container loads, most accounts start with Google Analytics (GA4 \/ <a href=\"https:\/\/ivitskiy.com\/blog\/en\/googleads-doubleclick-net-en\/\">Google tag<\/a>). GTM already has an All Pages trigger. Use it for the base analytics tag; add Meta (Facebook) Pixel the same way if you need remarketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Create a tag, name it clearly (for example GA4), choose Google tag \/ Google Analytics: GA4 Configuration (labels vary slightly by UI). Paste the Measurement ID in G-XXXX format from GA4 Admin \u2192 Data streams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Save every change. For real visitors it must be published: Submit \u2192 Publish. Draft tags do not fire in production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta Pixel follows the same pattern: All Pages trigger, tag type Custom HTML, base pixel code from Meta Events Manager. Always check Preview so you do not double-fire a pixel already hard-coded in the theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next you can add triggers for a specific URL, click, scroll or form submit. Test each tag in Preview. GTM keeps versions if you need a rollback. After that you can collect the data ads and analytics need without constant code deploys:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>where traffic comes from;<\/li>\n<li>which elements people click (buttons, links, click-to-call);<\/li>\n<li>which products or services they choose;<\/li>\n<li>how far they scroll;<\/li>\n<li>how often they submit a lead form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hard rule for clean measurement: once you move to GTM, <strong>GA4 should load through the container<\/strong>, not in parallel as a hard-coded theme tag. If Analytics was already installed directly, remove the direct code and reconnect GA4 via GTM, or pageviews and events will double-count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"limits-note\"><p><strong>When this does not apply<\/strong><\/p><ul>\n<li><strong>No access to head\/body and no real GTM module in the builder.<\/strong> You need technical access first or the container never loads.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Container \u201cinstalled\u201d but never published.<\/strong> Workspace drafts do not fire for real users.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GA4 and pixels fire both hard-coded and in GTM.<\/strong> Reports look healthier; spend decisions in $ get worse.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A closed native app without a web container.<\/strong> You need a mobile container and an app developer, not a
