The decision email can take up to 5 business days. Do not open a second profile for the same business.

If your Google Business Profile is suspended, the help pages call this a suspended or disabled profile. You ask for it back in the appeals tool. Do not create a new profile for the same business.

First check that the profile follows the guidelines, and fix the violation. Then submit one appeal: the files and your explanation go into the tool before you submit. How to set up the profile itself is explained in the guide to Google Business Profile setup. The steps are in Google’s page on suspended profiles.

What suspended means and which restrictions exist

Google may suspend or disable a profile that does not follow the guidelines. Removal is a separate case. The public cannot open the profile, and the owner and managers cannot act on it. They can ask for it back. If Google reinstates the profile, the owner and the managers get their access back too.

If Google removes the owner’s Google Account, it removes every location that account owns, and restoring the account restores them. If Google removes a manager’s account, that manager loses access to the accounts they manage, and the locations stay. If Google restores the manager’s account, that manager regains access to the locations.

An account restriction is different again. The profiles you manage are suspended, and you cannot create another profile or take ownership of one. Appeal the account first on the My accounts page, where you can also track it. When that restriction is lifted, appeal the profile suspension on its own.

In 2025 Google removed more than 13 million fake Business Profiles and blocked or removed more than 292 million reviews that broke the rules. That is a global figure from Google’s blog on 16 April 2026, not a rate for the United States. It covers fake profiles and reviews, so it does not show how often real businesses get suspended.

What the guidelines flag, and what to fix first

Picture a plumber who added a slogan and a phone number to the profile name and later found the profile suspended. Google’s guidelines say that extra information in the name can result in a suspension.

In a review of suspension cases by the Australian agency Search Scope, covering February 2025 to July 2026, the most common reason, 28.7%, was profile details that conflicted with the guidelines or with public data. The second, 23.0%, was too many edits or edits that came too fast. This is not a norm for the United States. The figures are on the Search Scope page.

On audits I look first at the owner’s last edits: the name, the address, and the category. I do not start from a competitor complaint.

Reason

What it looks like

What to fix before the appeal

Extra words in the name

The name holds a slogan, business hours, a phone number, a URL, a fully capitalized word, a product or service, a location, or the same name repeated in another language. A city is fine only if it is part of the real name.

Keep the name the way people know it outside the internet: the sign, the website, the stationery. Put the address, the hours, and the category in their own fields. Keep a legal ending or a special character only when it is on the sign, a business card, or an invoice.

The address is not where you work

A rented mailing address where you do not work (a virtual office), a remote mailbox, or a URL or keywords in the address line. A plumber shows a home address but travels to customers.

Use the real address, with permanent signage of the business name. A business that travels to customers and does not receive them hides the address. A coworking desk counts only with clear signage, customers during business hours, and your own staff on site.

Categories used as keywords

A long list, a neighbor’s category, or a list of services instead of what the business is.

Use as few categories as possible, and the most specific ones from Google’s list. They should finish the sentence «This business IS a», not «this business HAS a».

A second page for the same location

Two pages for one location of your business, even in different Google accounts.

Do not open the second one. Individual practitioners, departments, and a separate location with its own staff and its own service area can have their own pages.

Details that conflict with the rules or with public data

The name on the profile does not match the sign, the website, or the paperwork.

Align the profile with the sign and the documents before you appeal. While the appeal is under review, do not rewrite several fields all at once.

In the guidelines, a 24-hour coffee shop called Shelly’s Coffee keeps only that name in the name field. The street, the hours, and the category Coffee shop sit in their own fields. The name, address, and category rules are in Google’s representation guidelines. How to pick the primary category is in the guide to Business Profile categories.

How to submit the appeal

Make sure the profile follows all the guidelines and fix the violation. The reason in the tool shows where to start. Do not rewrite every field.

Prepare the documents. The business name and address on each one must match the profile.

Open the appeals tool from Google’s page on suspended profiles. If you are in the Google account linked to the profile, select Confirm. For another account, select Switch account.

Select the profile and select Continue. Then select the decision you want to appeal and select Continue. The tool shows which profile is restricted, the reason, and a link to the violated policy.

On the same screen, select Choose file to attach your evidence. You can attach more than one file. In the text box, explain why the profile should come back: what you fixed and which document shows it.

Google’s help says appeals can only be submitted once. When everything is attached, check the box that reads «I’m ready to submit this appeal and confirm that all optional supporting evidence is attached.» Then select Submit appeal.

The help says it can take up to 5 business days. That is a guide, not a guarantee. Do not send a second appeal for the same issue. The status sits on the right: Submitted, Approved, Not Approved, Can’t be appealed, Eligible for appeal. If the request is denied, Google may do an additional review, and you can add evidence that was not in the first appeal. The steps for each country are in Google’s page on appeals.

If the business is outside the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA), including in the United States, the appeals tool covers a suspended or disabled profile. A rejected edit to the name, category, address, phone, or website, and a restriction on a post, photo, or video, go through Contact us. If the business is in the UK or the EEA, the same tool also covers those edits and the media restrictions. If you reported a customer review and Google decided it does not break the policies, you can appeal that decision one time in the reviews management tool, not here.

Which documents to attach

The suspension page names official business registration, a business license, tax certificates, and a utility bill for the business: electricity, phone, water, or internet. The appeals page also names cable among utility bills, and it does not name water in that list. The business name and address on every document must match the profile.

I collect the documents before I open the appeals tool. I attach the files and the explanation on the appeal screen before I submit, because the appeal can be submitted only once. While I wait for the email, I do not open a second profile for the same business, and I do not rewrite all the fields at once.

What the owner should not do

Create a new profile for the same business.

Change the name, the address, and the category all at once. Fix what the reason in the tool points to. While the appeal is under review, do not rewrite all the fields at once.

Put a slogan, hours, a phone number, a URL, or a service in the name. A city is fine only if it is part of the real name.

Submit a document that shows a different name or a different address.

Submit the appeal before you have prepared your evidence. It is optional, but appeals can only be submitted once.

Send another appeal for the same issue. After a denial, you ask for an additional review instead.

I put the full appeal checklist into a short e-book.

When this does not apply

The profile was never verified, so its content may not show on Google. That is not a suspension. Start with Business Profile verification.

The Google account is restricted, not only the profile. A profile appeal does not lift that restriction. Start on the My accounts page.

The name changed so much that this is a new business. Rebranding is only a minor name change. The proper nouns and the services in the name stay, and the category stays. If a change goes beyond that, the business counts as new, so mark the old profile as closed and create a new one. That is not a way around a suspension of the same business.

The status Can’t be appealed means the tool will not take this appeal. If the tool says there is nothing you can appeal, and you believe there is, use Contact us: the Google team can confirm whether you are eligible for a new appeal.

Questions and answers

Should I open a new profile while the old one is suspended?

No. Do not create a new profile for the same business. A second page for the same location of your business breaks the guidelines, even in another Google account.

Why might my documents not help?

The help does not list reasons a document fails. It does advise checking that the business name and address on each document match the profile, and that is where I start. If the appeal is denied, you can ask for an additional review and add evidence that was not in the first appeal.

You can ask for a suspended Google Business Profile back in the appeals tool.
