Google Ads Account Suspended: What to Do Next

⏱ 4 min read
In short: Do not open a replacement account after a suspension. Trace the policy or payment problem, correct every linked issue, and then request a review or appeal an apparent mistake.

A Google Ads suspension is serious, but it does not automatically mean the account is lost. Google can suspend an account by mistake, and a genuine violation may still be fixable if you identify the cause and correct it.

Opening a new account for the same business is usually a poor response. Google can connect accounts through the domain, payment details, shared users, IP address, and other signals. A replacement account can preserve the same problem and extend it to more assets.

The suspension notification and email identify the policies involved. Read those names and the linked policy information first, then review your latest actions, account access, billing, ads, products, website content, and related accounts.

Possible reasons for a Google Ads suspension

  • Unauthorized access. Secure the account and report unauthorized activity through Google’s compromised account form before requesting another review.
  • Payment problems. Pay outstanding balances. Suspensions connected with promotional code abuse, chargebacks, or suspicious payment activity are much harder to reverse.
  • Counterfeit goods. Remove both the ads and the affected product pages from the website.
  • Prohibited content. Remove the noncompliant content immediately.
  • Promotion of unauthorized pharmacies or prescription opioid painkillers. Follow the policy named in the suspension notice, and check the ads, landing pages, related accounts, certification, and location requirements before appealing.
  • Unacceptable business practices. These violations can make account recovery practically impossible.
  • Unfair advantage or Circumventing systems. Fix the exact behaviour named in the notice, such as trying to show more than one ad for the same business in one ad location or trying to bypass enforcement. Do not close an account merely because another account exists. See other reasons Google may suspend an account.

Ask which recent action could have triggered the suspension. Google will not restore the account while the violation remains unresolved.

I do not create a replacement advertising account for the same assets after a suspension. I first map the shared domains, payment profiles, verified organizations, and user access. A new account retains those connections, so changing an account ID or user does not remove the underlying cause.

Google lists the available actions and restrictions in its account suspension guidance.

Once you understand the likely reason, work through these steps:

  1. Read the suspension notification and the policy information linked from it.
  2. Correct the identified issues in the account, website, billing, and any linked or related accounts.
  3. Select Contact Us in the suspension notification to open the appeal form.
  4. Provide the Google Ads customer ID and explain the relevant context accurately.
  5. Submit one complete appeal and wait for the decision before submitting another.
  6. If the account clearly cannot be restored, request a refund of the remaining balance.
  7. Do not create another account while suspensions remain unresolved. Reinstate all suspended and related accounts first.

When this does not apply

This recovery process is not a shortcut around Google policies. If the business promotes counterfeit goods, unauthorized pharmaceuticals, prohibited content, or an unacceptable business model, remove the violation before appealing. Some payment fraud and business practice suspensions are practically impossible to reverse.

An account can also be suspended by mistake. If it advertised without problems for a long time, no recent changes were made, and the suspension appeared unexpectedly, an appeal may be appropriate.

A careful audit of linked assets, billing, ads, and website content gives you the clearest basis for correcting the problem and submitting a focused appeal.

After a suspension, find the cause, fix every linked issue, and only then submit an appeal.

Restoring a suspended account can be difficult. If you followed the policies and did not try to bypass Google’s review systems, however, your chances of reinstatement are much stronger.
