In short: inside your account the feature is called Ask Advisor and carries a beta badge. The icon may not be there, and manager accounts do not have it. It answers questions about your account, writes ad text, and changes settings only with your approval. Anything about money or access, check in the account itself.

What people search for as Google Ads Advisor is called Ask Advisor inside the account, with a beta badge. It is a conversational assistant built with Gemini: you ask about your own account, it answers, drafts ad text, and with your approval makes changes. But not everyone has it. The icon appears only if your account is eligible, and Ask Advisor is not available in MCC (manager) accounts. Google’s help does not list countries or languages, so whether you have it is something you see only in your account.

Do not confuse it with ChatGPT. That is a chat outside your account, and I cover it in a separate piece on setting up Google Ads with ChatGPT. This article is only about the built-in assistant: where it lives, what it does, and where not to trust it without a check.

Where to find Ask Advisor and how to start

  1. In your Google Ads account, look in the top-right navigation bar for the icon labeled “Ask Advisor” with a Beta badge. You will not see it if your account is not eligible.
  2. The help describes a second way: type your question directly into the top Google Ads search bar.
  3. The Ask Advisor window opens in the right panel. Type your question about the account and press Enter.
  4. Be specific: name the campaign, the keyword, or the metric. You can ask follow-up questions on the same subject or switch to a new one.
  5. Use “chat history” (the clock icon) for old conversations. Context the assistant saved from earlier chats sits under the three-dot icon, in “saved info”.

A reply may take a moment. The thumbs up and thumbs down buttons send feedback to the product team on that response. The details are in Google’s help on Ask Advisor.

Request, what it does, what you check

The two left columns are examples from Google’s help. They show what the feature can do in beta, not a promise of results. The third column is mine.

Where not to trust it without checking

Google’s own help asks you to verify three things directly in your account settings: critical billing status, identity verification documents, and policy appeal outcomes. Anything the AI generates, you review and approve yourself.

My rule is simple. The assistant saves time where you need to pull data or think up options. Where money or account access is at stake, the account has the last word. An answer to “why did conversions drop” is only as good as the way conversions are recorded in your account. If the tracking is broken, the assistant will explain broken data. Treat its optimization suggestions the way you treat the optimization score: a hint, not a verdict.

I show how to build an account the AI can lean on in my Google Ads course: nine modules and a year of access to the lessons.

When this does not apply

Ask Advisor will not appear if your account is not eligible, and it is not available in MCC accounts. It is a beta, so the help warns that there may be limitations.

The conversational experience inside the Search campaign and responsive search ad builder is a different feature. Google’s help lists English, French, Spanish and German as the campaign languages it works with. It also cannot assist with domains in sensitive verticals, such as political content, celebrity endorsements, sexual content or gambling.

Ads in AI Overviews and AI Mode are a separate part of Search. You cannot target them alone or opt out of them separately from Search.

Questions and answers

Can the assistant change my campaigns on its own?

Google’s help says it can implement suggested changes with your approval. The examples include pausing a campaign, updating a targeted location, renaming a campaign and changing a daily budget.

Why do I not see the icon?

The icon shows only in eligible accounts. The help does not say what the requirements are, and it does not list countries or languages either.

Is it the same as ads in AI Overviews?

No. Ask Advisor answers questions about your account. Ads in AI Overviews and AI Mode are places where your ad can appear.

The step-by-step version of setting this up together with the rest of the account is in my book on Google Ads for business owners.
